Imagine
Imagine there's no Heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today
Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace
You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one
Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world
You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one
-John Lennon
This song is protesting against everything that was going on in the country at the time the song was written. This song was actually written during the time of the Vietnam War and protested against it. He says, "nothing to live or die for." Lennon is fed up with the war and war in general and thinks that people should try promoting peace instead. The song talks about a perfect world where there is no hate, hunger, and where everybody can get along. Lennon says that it may be just a far-fetched dream he has, but he is not the only one who wants change. Most of the country was not in favor of the war and counterculture especially wanted change. He ends the song saying how he hopes that one day change will come and peace will finally take over war "and the world can live as one." Lennon just wants a peaceful world where everyone can get along, a world that I think many would agree with, but a world I think would be too difficult to achieve.
